4+ years at RightCue

My career journey: I spent the first part of my career in the Middle East, mostly in the banking and insurance sectors under constant regulatory scrutiny, before moving to London five years ago. Working across both Middle Eastern and European markets has shown me how differently organisations approach security, and how much the fundamentals don't change. I came to RightCue as a contractor, and a few engagements in I knew I wanted to be here full-time. I now lead our penetration testing delivery in the UK.
My advice: Communication matters as much as technical skill. Working across different regions taught me that no two clients define a good engagement the same way, so agree the scope, understand the applications properly, and be clear on what they'll get back. That upfront effort is the difference between a report that gets filed and one that gets acted on.

My first month: Starting as an apprentice, I did not expect to be involved in client engagement so soon. What struck me was the exposure, you get opportunities to work across several clients on a variety of different standards and frameworks from early on. That variety is where the real learning comes from, and I was trusted with it far sooner than I expected, which meant I learned a lot faster from the beginning.
My favourite client project: My favourite standard to work on will always be ISO 27001. At RightCue we take clients on a journey, from the initial gap assessment, through implementation, and eventually to maintaining the Information Security Management System (ISMS) following certification. You grow with the client rather than stopping after certification, and seeing that whole journey through is genuinely rewarding.

My first month: What stood out to me was just how many opportunities and how much exposure you get, right from the start. I've had the chance to learn far more than I expected, and the diversity of work meant I could take ownership and handle processes end to end, rather than just a slice of them. That kind of trust early on is what accelerated the learning curve.
My biggest lesson: The best security decisions come from understanding the business first and the threat second. It's easy to get caught up in what could go wrong technically and lose sight of what the client is actually trying to achieve. What I've learned to do well is help people weigh risk sensibly, in a way that makes sense for their business, and that's where I feel I add the most value.
